William’s First Birthday

It’s official… William is one year old!

Looking back, I remember hearing others say how quickly a year will go by. (And they were right.) It’s hard to believe we welcomed our firstborn baby one year ago — and all the moments and milestones we’ve met along the way.

It’s been quite a year. At one year old, Will’s grown from a newborn baby in Chicago to a little boy in New York City. We’ve weathered a pandemic as a family and society, making these types of celebrations different than expected — nonetheless, they are special and to be treasured, at the simplest level.

I’m so thankful my parents and in-laws were able to travel safely to New York to visit for Will’s first birthday. We had cake. And balloons. Lots of food, drinks, and laughter, too. We loved the occasion to celebrate Will and to spend time all together as family.

To William: I hope to always remember the excitement, love, and overwhelming joy I felt that sunny December day in 2019. You’re a sweet, smart, high-energy curious kid already. Being your mom is the greatest gift I can imagine and I can’t wait to watch you grow. We had a blessed, memorable year with you and love you beyond words. Happy Birthday, Will!
