A Fresh Update for our Baby’s Nursery

It’s pretty amazing how a simple coat of fresh paint can totally transform an entire room.

Since moving into our new home last fall, we envisioned a bedroom nearest our master as one day becoming the nursery for our future baby. Well, now that we’re six weeks away from meeting our little one: that day is quickly approaching!

In preparation for our baby boy, the room has seen its share of changes. As with most spaces, I focused first on lighting and wall color. We switched the existing LED ceiling fixture to this linen drum shade flush mount that gives off a really nice soft, warm light. Next, I opted for a brighter white wall color that would feel fresh and calming. Most of the accents in our baby’s nursery will be soft blues and natural driftwood, so a crisp and classic white shade for the walls was a natural choice.

Recently, I was invited to attend the True Value Fall Reunion where I met with the experts at EasyCare Paint including their color expert, Nicole Chapple. We chatted about my upcoming paint project and what I had in mind. After learning about EasyCare Paint’s selection of over 1,200 colors and curated palettes, I selected the shade “Yacht” to repaint the room in an eggshell finish. The previous paint color was a darker beige hue (see below…)

Prior to painting, my husband and I added custom moldings to the walls — which ultimately added more dimension and interest to the room. The project itself was time consuming with calculating measurements and cutting each piece of trim exact to dimension with a miter saw. But, I have to say: it was worth it! I loved how the room was coming together.

Next up was paint. I chose one color for both the walls and moldings — but in different finishes. (Eggshell for walls and satin for moldings.)

I teamed up with EasyCare Ultra Premium Paint to create the perfect nursery and I am so glad I did. The paint was so easy to use. I was able to skip the primer step, because the formula is a paint-and-primer in one. Plus, it’s low odor and low-VOC which makes it a safe choice while I’m pregnant. Even more, I learned EasyCare Paint is certified by the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America as it minimizes irritants and pollutants in the air creating a healthier indoor environment and a suitable choice for our baby’s room.

Do you have any painting projects in your future? Either way: it’s always fun to explore trends in color. I loved meeting and chatting with EasyCare Color Expert, Nicole, to find the perfect color for our nursery. We pulled a variety of shades, each with different hues and undertones to complement other accents in the room. You can find a helpful guide to paint color on the True Value website, for reference.

Soon we’ll be adding window treatments, artwork, an area rug and cozy chair in preparation for December. Perhaps I’ll share the finished project once he arrives!
