Coffee Talk (Vol.1)

posted on: Friday, July 21, 2017

QUESTION: What's your favorite place for brunch in Chicago?
I have several favorite spots for brunch... and always a growing list of new places to visit. A handful of personal favorites in Chicago include Summer House Santa Monica, The Allis, Beatrix, Kanela and Nellcote. For quick, casual grab-and-go breakfasts: Goddess and Grocer and Southport Grocery. Bon appetit!

QUESTION: Where did you find your coffee table?
This is a question I receive often! I found our coffee table online on Overstock, of all places. To me, it looks like a similar table I love by Restoration Hardware... but costs much less. You can find the exact table available here.

QUESTION: I recently graduated college and am now in the job interviewing process. Any tips or advice for going into interviews? (I get so nervous, ugh!)
Congratulations on graduation! Post-grad life can feel exciting, but scary, too. Interviews are always nerve wrecking, no matter your industry or stage of life. The best advice beyond the basics of being prepared (familiarizing yourself with the company, being well-versed in articulating your experience, and demonstrating what you can offer the employer) is to approach the interview with confidence. Understand your interviewer WANTS you to succeed. (They did ask you to the interview, right?) The interviewer isn't there to 'trick' you — think of it as a two-way conversation, where you can determine if the job is a good fit for you, too. I'd also recommend preparing responses for those quintessential questions (i.e. "Tell me about yourself.") You may not have a perfect answer on paper, but how you handle yourself will speak volumes. A good way to calm nerves is to begin your interaction with casual (but professional and appropriate) small talk. I've always felt much better having established a small friendly connection prior to jumping into the formal interview. Best wishes to you!

QUESTION: What are the most comfortable pair of heels you own?
Good question! I'll be honest: the most comfortable heels for me are blocked and 2-3 inches in height, like these under $100 and this splurge-worthy pair that's like jewelry for your feet. They may not appear so, but the absolute most comfortable designer pairs I own are Valentino Rockstuds and Aquazzura Wild Thing heels. A good classic and comfortable heel under $120 are by Sam Edelman, available in multiple colors.

QUESTION: Where are you going on your honeymoon?
Hmm... let me get back to you on that one! We've really focused our efforts so far on our ceremony and wedding celebration, but soon we'll begin brainstorming and planning honeymoon travel. I'm thinking my fiancé and I will want a mix of relaxation and adventure... if you have any suggestions, feel free to share any ideas or where you honeymooned!

7 Skincare Favorites I Use and Love

posted on: Tuesday, July 18, 2017

Today I'm giving you a peek inside my medicine cabinet and sharing a handful of skincare favorites, all I honestly use and love. None of these products or recommendations are 'sponsored' — just ones that work for me and that I'm happy to share, as I would with girlfriends ;)

CLARISONIC BRUSH  |  I purchased the Clarisonic Mia last summer and it's been the best investment for my skin in the past year, hands down. I've experienced far fewer breakouts and notice my skin feels (and looks) more radiant and clear. I love the deep-clean feeling the Clarisonic gives, as it works to exfoliate and polish. Just be sure to remove all make-up prior to using and to replace the brush head every 3 months or so. You can find Clarisonic currently on sale.

NEULASH SERUM  |  I had seen this serum mentioned on other blogs and continued to read reviews, and thought maybe the claims of longer lashes were mostly hype. Well, I gave NeuLash a try... and, wow! I noticed longer and fuller lashes within weeks (totally honest). I used consistently, every night, and began seeing results 3 to 4 weeks later. I purchased the larger 0.2oz tube, which lasted much longer than I had expected. A little goes a long way. If interested, NeuLash is now on sale at Nordstrom.

CLARINS HYDRA-ESSENTIEL CREAM  |  Is it weird I look forward to applying this at night? I was first gifted Hydra-Essentiel as a sample and quickly became hooked. Clarins is a global authority on skincare and this collection especially works for me. The cream goes on silky smooth and restores moisture to skin, giving an overall glowy and radiant appearance. The collection also comes in a gel and serum.

AERIN ROSE LIP CONDITIONER  |  If you've been a longtime reader here, you probably have noticed me feature Aerin before, for home decor or fragrance — and now this lip conditioner deserves a spotlight. The formula is ultra nourishing, and has a slight rose scent and flattering soft pink tint. (The packaging is so pretty, too.)

M-61 POWERGLOW EYE CREAM  |  Developed by Bluemercury, this eye cream is perfect for anyone who's beginning to notice fine lines near their eyes. (Anyone else...?) It's packed glycolic acid and vitamin K, which has helped improve the tone and smoothness around my eyes.

MARIO BADESCU DRYING LOTION  |  I've written about this product before, as you may remember — but this stuff works! It's basically a spot treatment that zaps breakouts before they worsen, overnight. You can find this Mario Badescu set now on sale.

ELYSIUM SPA  |  If you're local to Chicago, I recommend Elysium in River North. I see Ana for skincare facials and dermaplaning (which make a huge difference in the appearance of my skin) and I'd trust Dr. Mick for any injectibles, botox or consultation you may be interested in ;)

Summer Whites

posted on: Monday, July 17, 2017

Here's to a fresh new week! My summer feels like it's been flying by... I enjoyed a relaxed weekend to catch-up on a few projects, blog-related and also: wedding! (More updates coming soon...) July in Chicago has been consistently warm, so I've been living in sundresses and lots of whites. This crochet blouse is a favorite of mine to wear to work and beyond, as well as this leather saddle bag. The bag is by Cuyana and is absolute top-notch quality. If interested, the bag comes in various colors and sizes, too. Have a great week, everyone!

Red Dress

posted on: Monday, July 3, 2017

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend! I enjoyed a few days away from Chicago near Grand Beach, Michigan. (The beautiful coastline there always takes my breath away!) I wore this patriotic red dress on Saturday along the beach. It's the perfect shade of orangey-red, and the best part: it's now on sale for $10.99. (Yes, that's right.) You can find the dress for sale here.
