Where We're Getting Married

posted on: Tuesday, May 30, 2017

Since becoming engaged in December, we've made progress with the more "major" side of wedding plans — like our date and venue. Well, I'm happy to say, both have been secured for some time now (yay!) and I can share with you more on that front...

We're getting married in New Orleans!

Kevin and I are so excited to say "I do" in a city we've come to love together. (We're pretty sure our guests will enjoy NOLA, too!). I'm envisioning a celebration with lots of good music, plenty of candlelight, full of love and southern charm, of course. Because I'm planning largely from across the country, I've been quick to find and adopt a handful of resources to utilize until the big day next fall. Here are 3 tools that have been helpful in the wedding planning process so far:

INSTAGRAM  |  Yes, Instagram! While Pinterest has a strong presence in the wedding planning game, I prefer Instagram because content happens frequently in real-time and posts seem more authentic to me. (Pinterest feels like a big styled photoshoot sometimes, right?). I've used Instagram to search for locations and venues by geo-tag, as well as popular hashtags. Instagram is also a great way to connect with local vendors and gather ideas based on past work.

AGENDA  |  I was recently gifted this agenda and already know it will be put to good use. The agenda is organized into major categories, including vendors, payments, timeline and registry. While it's convenient to keep quick notes on an iPhone, it's nice to keep physical records, too. Along with the agenda, I'm keeping a stack of personalized stationery on my desk for handwritten thank-you's and correspondence notes, as they pop up.

WEDDINGWIRE  |  This site has it all, friends. WeddingWire has tremendously helped my search for a band, florist, rentals, transportation, hotels and beyond. I'm able to keep tabs on hired (and prospective) vendors all in one place, complete with contact information, reviews, pricing and FAQ. I also have certain WeddingWire tools bookmarked for future months, like the guest list manager and seating chart planner. And lastly, if you're interested in creating a wedding website or even a custom Snapchat filter for your wedding day or bachelorette (so fun!), they've got you covered.

You're invited! I'm excited to be hosting a spring style event with Madewell next Thursday, May 25. Stop by the Gold Coast store near Rush and Oak anytime 5:00 - 7:00pm for sips, sweets and shopping (with a discount!). Enjoy 25% off any purchase of $125+. And let me say, I stopped by Madewell yesterday and the new arrivals are so good! I picked up this bell sleeve topskinny jeans, and bandana to tie around a tote. If you're local to Chicago, I'd LOVE to meet you and see you there! Please RSVP to me or to Or swing by and say hi!

The Things That Matter

posted on: Friday, May 12, 2017

My week is ending on a bittersweet note, as I'm headed to my parents' hometown to celebrate the life of my Grandpa Bill. He passed away at the age of 90 and led a wonderful life — he had a big heart, dedication to family and his community, served our country in the Navy, had a strong passion for lifelong learning, and was known for his love of good jazz. I have him to thank for introducing me to Billie Holiday when I was a young girl and for exemplifying so many important qualities. I normally keep things lighthearted around here, but I also feel the need to give credence to the "real" me and share some things you might not gather from behind a computer screen. This week has been a good reminder to be forever grateful for the things that matter most. Those of you spending the weekend with family and your moms, enjoy your time together! Thank you for reading, and see you next week :)

Weekend Style

Here's to a fresh new week! I wore this striped tee and trench Sunday for a walk around Southport Corridor with my fiancĂ©. If you're visiting (or are new) to Chicago, the Southport area is vibrant with shops and restaurants, but also has a local, laid-back neighborhood feel. (The best of both worlds, really!) Some of my favorite spots along Southport are Cafe TolaSouthport GroceryCorridor BreweryJeni's, and shops like J.Crew, lululemonU.S. Apothecary and Anthropologie. And lastly: you've seen this blush pink drape coat before... you can find similar style coats here (on sale!), here or here (under $30).
