10 Best Candles for Fall

posted on: Wednesday, October 26, 2016

Once fall arrives, I like to switch out my summery candles — like citrus and floral scents — for warmer, woodsier options. There’s something so relaxing about cozying up and lighting a scented candle in the cooler months. (Cliché, but true, right?) With scents like cinnamon, vanilla and cedarwood, I rounded up 10 best candles for fall:

CIRE TRUDON ODALISQUE | orange blossom, wood bark and warm vanilla
VOLUSPA BALTIC AMBER | amber with sandalwood and vanilla orchid
CAPRI BLUE VOLCANO | tropical fruits, pine and sugared citrus
DIPTYQUE FEU DE BOIS | fragrance reminiscent of a real wood fireplace
NEST PUMPKIN CHAI | warm pumpkin, spicy chai and cinnamon
BOULANGERIE PUMPKIN SOUFFLE | delicious pumpkin with rich maple syrup and vanilla
ANTICA FARMACISTAluxe blend of vanilla, bourbon and mandarin
BATH & BODY WORKS LEAVES | rich blend of fall apple, golden nectar & spiced clove
HENRI BENDEL VANILLA BEAN | vanilla rum, cedarwood and sandalwood
WOODWICK CINNAMON CHAI | warm cinnamon and rich vanilla notes

City Chic

posted on: Monday, October 24, 2016

Hi friends, hope you had a great weekend! Chicago is buzzing with excitement, as the Cubs won a major game Saturday to qualify for the World Series. No matter your allegiance, it's fun to see the city band together and share in celebration! This weekend, I reached for a leather jacket that's been in my closet for years and a pair of booties to spend an afternoon in River North. This exact jacket is from a few seasons ago, but I've linked similar styles below, if interested. Wishing you a good Monday!

SHOP THE POST: Leather Jacket (old, similar here and here) || Lush Tunic (on sale!) || Zella Leggings || Marc Fisher 'Alisa' Boots (c/o) || essie Nail Polish (Spiked with Style) || Bobbi Brown Eye Palette

Today's post is all about cozy little indulgences, perfect for fall weekends. Chicago is beginning to cool off, which has me thinking about warmer layers and cozying up at home with spiced tea and a nice candle (this one is my absolute favorite). The makings of my perfect relaxed night-in would include: luxe pajamas (also love these PJs under $100), a super soft blanket, these faux fur slippers on my feet, and catching up on Netflix with a glass of wine. What does your ideal night-in look like?

Autumn Cape

posted on: Wednesday, October 12, 2016

This past weekend found me in my hometown: Appleton, Wisconsin. While I like city life, there's something about returning where you grew up. Things are a little slower, friendlier, and I catch myself appreciating the greenery and open spaces more and more. I enjoyed a nice visit with my parents, older brother and my sweet little niece, as well as my Grandma, who is celebrating 96 this year! Whenever I'm home, I naturally gravitate toward toward casual pieces, like this soft cape and my favorite pair of jeans. I'd love to know: Where did you grow up and do you still get to visit often?

3 Simple Tips for Softer Skin

posted on: Tuesday, October 11, 2016

The beginning of each season is always a good time to evaluate and update my skin care routine, especially when cooler months roll in and dry conditions hit. I don't know about you, but the onset of fall can really wreak havoc on my skin! That's why I was excited to partner with Dove to share tips for better skin. Over the past few weeks, I've tried to maintain a consistent routine to keep my skin looking refreshed and feeling soft. Though there's a myriad of methods and products for skincare — for me, it really breaks down to three simple things:

1.) Stay hydrated.  |  Drinking enough water is important for many reasons, skin included! I always seem to have more energy and clearer, better skin when I'm conscious of drinking enough water. I once read you should aim to drink as many ounces in a day as what you weigh. So if you weigh 130 pounds, you should drink 130 ounces. To keep hydrated throughout the day, I love my bkr water bottle, which comes in a variety of fun colors.

2.) Opt for healthy, natural foods.  |  A healthy diet works wonders for skin. Choose nutrient-rich foods, like leafy greens, whole grains and vegetables with a variety of antioxidants, for skin that looks radiant. Don't forget to get enough protein and carbohydrates — those are important, too! For a little extra boost, I like these supplements found at Sephora.

3.) Use the right products.  |  Beyond taking an 'inside-out' approach, using the right products is a third component to skincare. I've been a longtime fan of Dove and this body wash to keep my skin feeling nourished, so I was happy to partner to try Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant. It's one of those things that can get overlooked, but a good antiperspirant is something essential to your everyday routine, right? I use this Beauty Finish variety, which provides 48 hour protection and makes my skin soft and smooth. It also smells amazing and doesn't get on my clothes, two major requirements in my book ;)

Things to Love About Fall

posted on: Friday, October 7, 2016

This time of year is quickly becoming my favorite, when the heat cools down and richer colors begin to pop. Are you ready to embrace autumn? (I am!) Between the fun traditions that happen in fall and just how pretty it is outside, the season is a welcome change in my book. Here's a round-up of things I'm looking forward to and love about fall:

OUTDOOR OUTINGS  |  Between apple picking and football tailgates, getting outside as much as possible during fall is a necessity.

THANKSGIVING  |  A holiday all about giving thanks, appreciating family, and of course: good food!

CASHMERE  |  Whether it's a sweater or scarf, cashmere is so soft and deserves a spot in everyone's wardrobe.

SEASONAL SIPS  |  I'll personally pass on the 'PSL,' but I'm all about spiced apple cider or a hot chai tea.

BAKING  |  I made pumpkin spice muffins last week (yum!) and have been saving more recipes to try on Pinterest.

BOOTS  |  Dare I say I'm looking forward to wearing boots again? These over-the-knee pair are on my wish list, but I also love these and these.

COZINESS  |  I mean, is there anything better in fall than cozying up with a blanket and candle in front of a fire?

SHOP THE POST: Plaid Scarf || Ceramic Pumpkin Dish || Pumpkin Chai Candle (highly recommend) || Field Jacket || Spiced Pumpkin Baking Mix (easy to make) || Over the Knee Boots || Ivory Blanket || Heart Dish (under $20) || Bordeaux Nail Polish || Thanksgiving Plate (now on sale) || Turkey Place Card || Autumn Wreath || Cashmere Sweater (comes in multiple colors) || Plaid Ground Cover

Now you chime in! What are your favorite things about autumn?

Cashmere + Lace

posted on: Wednesday, October 5, 2016

The transition from summer to fall can be tricky. Mornings are cool, but by mid-day: it's sunny and hot! One of my favorite looks to wear this time of year is a dress layered underneath a draped cardigan or coat. This exact sweater is currently sold out (I'm hoping Nordstrom brings it back!)... but here's a near identical cashmere sweater, as well as this one on sale. Hope you're having a great week, everyone!

SHOP THE LOOK: Cashmere Cardigan (similar here, herehere and here) || For Love and Lemons White Lace Dress (similar here and here) || J.Crew Suede Booties (similar here and here) || Cuyana Clutch (c/o) || Ray-Ban 62mm Aviators || essie Nail Color ('Fiji')
