Fall Style Under $100

posted on: Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Today's post is a round-up of new styles for fall... all under $100! Which pieces are your favorite? I'm eyeing this amazing faux fur vest to layer once it gets a little chilly, this lightweight blouse that'd look perfect under a long cardigan, this pair of booties that come in multiple colors, and this reversible tote under $50.

September Chic

I'm back in Chicago and ready for a new week! A few days away was just what the doctor ordered. I spent the weekend in Michigan, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and a fun celebration for two friends. I'm returning refreshed and ready for fall! Here I talked about style trends for the new season, but one 'tried-and-true' look I love wearing each season is a nod to minimalism. It's a style that's effortless and looks great for all ages and body types, and remains forever chic no matter the year. Simply dress all in one color, then add one piece of statement color — like a coat or vest. This exact drape coat sadly is sold out, but I've linked to similar styles below. (And if you're thinking ahead: my favorite winter shawl coat is currently on sale!)

Wishing you a wonderful weekend! I'm headed to Manistee, Michigan today to celebrate a wedding for friends, Katherine and Paul. (Can't wait!) I'm also looking forward to getting a first feel of fall and enjoying what will be a picturesque drive along the lake. I'll be back next week with new posts, but in the meantime — in case you missed it: 7 Style Trends for Fall, My Favorite Spots for Coffee in Chicago and my personal thoughts on Fewer, Better Things. Have a great weekend, everyone!

My Favorite Chicago Coffee Spots

posted on: Wednesday, September 21, 2016

I woke up this morning to strong storms outside and realized there's something about a rainy day that makes me want to cozy up at my favorite coffee spot. (Anyone else?). A few of you have asked for more Chicago-focused content here on the site, and I'm happy to do that! Today I'm sharing a handful of my current favorite spots for coffee in Chicago. I admit I'm a bit of a coffee snob and prefer my brew bold... these places pass the test! Some are perfect spots for grab-and-go, while others are suitable to set up and stay with a book or laptop.

Any other places you'd add to the list? I always love discovering new places!

Fewer, Better Things

posted on: Monday, September 19, 2016

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting the girls behind one of my absolute favorite brands, Cuyana, for dinner at NellcĂ´te. I first discovered the collection a few years ago, and instantly fell for its classic designs and quality. Even more than that, the brand's motto resonated with me — an emphasis on fewer, better things. I know many times, this blog (and fashion blogs in general) talk a lot about "stuff," material speaking. Though it's part of the nature when dealing with fashion, I never want this space to come off as materialistic. I put a lot of thought behind what I personally purchase, and also the things I share and recommend here on my site. I'll always focus on brands and styles I genuinely love, and could possibly find a spot in your wardrobe, too. Case in point: this leather tote I've carried for the past three years. It's held up through multiple trips in the U.S. and beyond, yet still looks perfectly new. (Can't recommend it enough!). Anyway, that might have been a bit much for a Monday morning, but I'm all for simplifying and investing in classics that remain wardrobe staples... year after year.

And if you're a local reader, take a peek at these Chicago events happening with Cuyana this week!

How Chicago Influences My Style

Recently, I was asked: "How has living in Chicago influenced your style?" I'd say, being a Midwest girl in a big city, I like to invest in pieces that are both classic and practical, then have a little fun with trends and edge through accessories. You'll find me opting for a tailored dress or a great pair of jeans and a blouse, styled with statement shoes, a fabulous bag or printed scarf. While it's fun to keep up with the latest trends out of NYC and LA, style in Chicago is structured and urban but more approachable. (We do have 4 distinct and unpredictable seasons, after all!). Old Navy is encouraging you to share your state style by posting to Instagram with #50Style50States. Where do you live and how do you think your location influences your wardrobe? p.s. All the pieces I'm wearing here are under $100 — yes, really!
