Faux Fur Vest

posted on: Friday, October 30, 2015

The star of this outfit is this faux fur vest. I've been on the search for one that's not too puffy, and is the right color and texture. Believe it or not, I found the vest at Rent the Runway. I've relied on RTR (several times!) for weddings and black tie events over the years. Rent the Runway also offers a variety of clothing, outerwear and accessories for everyday wear — whether that be for a vacation, an interview or presentation at work, or "just because." I wore the faux fur vest and black clutch this last weekend, which was perfect for a fall staycation in the city with my mom. What I love about the vest is that the back side isn't faux fur, but a black sweater lining — keeping me from getting too warm or going overboard on fur. If you like the vest as much as I do, you can rent it for 4 (or 8) days via Rent the Runway. The vest is also available for purchase here and here.

While last week's post was dedicated to glam-inpsired style, today's round-up is all about pretty and ladylike pieces. All are classic, versatile items that'd be staples in any girl's closet for years to come. I love this ivory cableneck sweater, along with this skirt (now on sale). These rockstud flats are a definite splurge, but they're a modern update to traditional flats with edge. As for heels, these metallic sandals are a perfect finishing touch. If you're looking to try a new scent at home, I'd recommend this candle — it smells SO good, like fresh peaches.

Items as seen above: Gold Comb || Highlighting Powder Duo || Fragrance || Rose Gold Wristlet || Python Skirt (on sale) || Pearl Earrings || Cluster Earrings || Lace Bra (less than $50) || Rockstud Flats || Turtleneck Sweater (comes in 10+ colors) || Metallic Heeled Sandals || Candle (also here)

Plaid Cape

posted on: Thursday, October 22, 2015

A cape (or poncho) is one of those fall essential pieces I love wearing. This red plaid one is perfect for feeling on-trend and pulled together — without having to spend too much. (It's by Old Navy and comes in additional colors and patterns, here!) Worn with staple basics, like leggings and boots, it's an effortless look to throw on, whether I'm running out for morning coffee or exploring my neighborhood on the weekend. Plus, it's cozy, warm, and figure-forgiving ;) If you're not so sure about wearing a poncho or cape, try cinching it with a belt at your waist for a more defined silhouette.

Thank you to Old Navy for partnering on this post!

Autumn Plaid

I've been on the search for a classic plaid shirt this season — and this one's pretty perfect, if you ask me! The fit is just right, its material is really soft, and the red, white and green colors will carry on to be worn this winter around the holidays. (I can just imagine the shirt layered under an ivory sweater with my favorite black pixie pants.) If you like the look, be sure to check out these affordable plaid shirts under $30. Chicago has been especially beautiful lately — I hope you're enjoying October, so far, wherever it finds you!
