Blue and White

posted on: Wednesday, April 30, 2014

There's something I'll always love about the combination of blue and white. It's classic, a tad East Coast nautical, refined yet fresh. Whether it's home décor or apparel, I'm trying to branch out of my usual color palette to incorporate more accents of blue and white. Here are a few of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Scenes From My Week (plus, a new series!)

I hope you had a great weekend! The past few days have been a bit of whirlwind for me, with lots of fun events and celebrations. I'm thankful for a day of rest to recoup from feeling under the weather with a bad cold (my voice is completely shot!). It's a good time to focus in on building new content and features around here, one of which I'm excited to announce today: a showcase of my favorite places in Chicago. Think of it as a mini city guide of destinations fit for weekend brunch or a girls' night out, or where to find a special gift and my favorite cup of coffee. Whether you're a local Chicagoan or just visiting for the weekend, I'm excited to chronicle a few local places I love! The series certainly won't overwhelm the blog (think 1-2 dedicated posts per month), but I hope to add a little local flavor to the mix. Let me know what you think!

Happy Friday! Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? The next few days will be exciting ones for me, with hosting an event tonight, a wedding and bachelorette tomorrow, and brunch Sunday. (If you care to follow along via Instagram, I'm sure to post a few fun snapshots!). Thank you for stopping by — I hope you enjoy your weekend!

5 Beauty Buys

posted on: Thursday, April 24, 2014

favorite beauty products
I'm always curious to discover what cosmetics my friends are loving, so today I'm sharing my current top 5 beauty buys. Some of them I've used for years, while others are new favorites. Here we go!

1. Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil A new favorite of mine. I had heard about argan oil countless times, but was hesitant about using actual oil on my face. I gave it a try, and was pleasantly surprised. Argan oil feels lightweight (not greasy!) and helps curb early signs of fine lines and wrinkles.

2. Trish McEvoy Precise Eye Lining Brush I've been using this eyeliner for years. Trish's brush is the best!

3. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush This stuff has lasting power. My favorite shade "Tipsy" gives a soft, pretty glow to cheeks.

4. Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm A great drugstore buy. The "Vivacious" shade is my go-to color in my clutch right now.

5. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer My must-have product for special occasions. I find the bottle a little expensive for everyday use, so I use this primer for weddings, parties, and events to create a polished look that lasts all day (and night!).

Have you tried any of these products? I'd love to hear your beauty favorites!

Easter Favorites

posted on: Thursday, April 17, 2014

Can you believe Easter weekend is almost here?! I'll be traveling home this weekend to celebrate with family. Besides Sunday service and brunch, I'm looking forward to a few days at home to recharge. Are you celebrating Easter this weekend? I'd love to hear what you're up to!

Here are a few favorites of mine for Easter weekend, including this pretty dress paired with sparkly earrings and sandals. I've always had a sweet spot for Easter décor, like this antiqued ceramic bunny (so cute!). And with a few simple pieces of white dinnerware and flowers, the table is set for a beautiful brunch.

Summer Sandals

posted on: Tuesday, April 15, 2014

When it comes to transitioning my winter wardrobe to lighter summertime wear, there's nothing I love more than ditching the heavy boots and slipping on a pair of pretty sandals. Each year, it's fun to browse new styles in anticipation of summer outings... picnics, festivals, concerts, dining al fresco, etc. These pairs are both stylish and comfortable for summer activities – plus, they're on sale at 25% off during the Shopbop Friends and Family event. Happy shopping!

Which pair is your favorite? (I'm loving the Tory Burch 'Savannah' and Antik Batik Embellished pairs.)

It's been a few years since I've visited Paris... and believe me, I would return in a heartbeat! I love all things French – the culture, language, architecture... the list goes on. When I came across this new collection of Paris photographs by Anna, I had to share. Aren't these photos beautiful? Be sure to click over to her site to see more!

Spring Beauty with Clarins

Last week, I had the opportunity to preview the latest collection from Clarins – and I have to say, I'm impressed! After trying a bunch of the products for myself at home, I have a few favorites I'd recommend checking out. First up, this Golden Glow Booster. With just 3 drops added to any moisturizer, the formula gives your complexion a nice sun-kissed glow. I use the product on my face twice a week to build a natural looking tan. What's great is that it gives my skin just the right amount of color, so I actually end up using less foundation and bronzer in my routine. I know it'll become a beauty staple of mine, especially in the summer months when I try to keep things streamlined and low-maintenance! I also loved Clarins Radiance Boosting Complexion Base and Face Palette, both which create a balanced and bright skin tone. Lastly, this Cream Blush comes in a variety of colors, and can be used both on your cheeks and lips. Packaged in a chic mirrored gold compact, it's a great little product I keep in my purse on the go.

Have you tried the Clarins line recently? I'd love to hear your beauty favorites this season!

Special thanks to Clarins for providing product; opinions are my own.
